The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
In the fictional world of Gentry, human babies are given as tribute to the inhabitants of the town's Underworld and as a "Replacement" an otherworldly baby is left in its place. Although these babies usually die quickly, Mackie, the narrator of the story, has made it to high school. However, he is dying of allergies to the world around him and he wants to be human. When a classmate's sister, who is also a Replacement , is kidnapped by Them, Mackie must face his origins and the creepy, dark creatures who live in Gentry's Underworld to help his friend. I think this book would appeal to teens and anybody who likes an eerie story about monsters!
