Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine
Two sisters, Princess Meryl and Princess Addie, are complete opposites of one another. While Meryl is adventurous, daring, and dreams of journeys and quests, Addie is younger and more timid. Suddenly, Meryl is struck by an illness called the Gray Death that will kill her quickly. A fabled prophecy had said that the Gray Death shall only be cured when “Cowards find courage and rain falls over all Bamarre.” After her father fails to find the cure, Addie finds her own strength takes things into her own hands and embarks on an adventure to discover a cure.
