Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen
Ruby Cooper is an independent teenager who was abandoned by her own mother. After child services finds out that she has lived by herself for the past few months, she is sent to live with her older sister. The key to her old house still hangs around her neck. Her cynical perspective makes her feel like an outsider, but she might soon be able to finds friends and perhaps even love in her neighborhood. This realistic fiction book is recommended to all Sarah Dessen fans, and even contains some allusions to her other books.
