Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima
Han Alister is a poor teenager who provides food for his mother and sister. He has an infamous reputation for being the leader of Raggers, despite his abandoning the risky lifestyle for a year.
Alister is puzzled by the thick silver cuffs with runes that grow as he grows. His adverse life conditions become more complicated when he steals an extremely powerful amulet from Micah Baya, the son of the High Wizard. Raisa ana'Marianna, the heir of the Fells, faces a challenge that relates to the journeys of Alister. She realizes the growing power of the wizards and the changes in her mother. The amulet of the Demon King that falls into Alister's possession and the actions of the Demon King 1,000 years ago influence the events of the story.
It is helpful to know that the predicaments faced in this book are resolved in the following books in the series.
Overall Evaluation - Awesome
I believe this book would appeal to all teenagers. However, readers that enjoy books similar to the Harry Potter series would get the most out of this fascinating read.
